NORTH VS. SOUTH OLDIES BATTLE RESULTS!!!

The polls are closed, the ballots have been counted and the votes have been tabulated. This year's Second Annual North/South Battle came out dead even -- six rounds for the North, six rounds for the South.

Rounds 1, 2, 4 and 12 were extremely close. Round 1 saw Chuck Miller's "House of Blue Lights" score well towards the end of the month to catch and pass The Blue Dots' "Saturday Night Fish Fry" and deliver victory to the North.

Round 2 was back-and-forth all month, with "Good Rockin' Tonight" by Wynonie Harris eventually capturing 53% of the vote to edge "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston with Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm.

Round 4 was also very close throughout the voting, with The Fendermen's "Don't You Just Know It" finishing with 52% of the votes to sneak by "Wine Wine Wine" by The Nightcaps.

Round 12 was a very interesting contest. Early in the month, Jimmy Dorsey's "So Rare" opened up a large lead over "Pledging My Love" by Johnny Ace. Gradually, the southern entry gained ground and the Late Great Johnny Ace pulled ahead the last couple of days of voting to finish with 51% of the votes.

Not all the match-ups were nail-biters. Round 11 was the most lopsided competition in the history of the North/South and East/West Battles that Lane Quigley and Bill Green have waged over the past 8 years. In that competition, Floyd Cramer's "Last Date" picked up 91% of the votes to defeat "Scorpio" by Dennis Coffey.

Another one-sided skirmish was in Round 9, where Jerry Butler's "Moon River" garnered 82% of the votes to claim victory over Lloyd Price's "Misty".

The Soul Queen of New Orleans, Irma Thomas, also coasted to a big win with 78% of the votes in Round 3 being cast for her "Wish Someone Would Care", easily defeating Mitty Collier's "I Had a Talk With My Man."

We are please to report that a record number of votes were cast. Lane and Bill extend their sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to listen and vote. Be on the lookout for the 9th Annual North/South Battle upcoming next Spring.

Here are the round-by-round results. The five lucky winners will be notified by e-mail of their prizes.

Archives page reminder

Remember, if the show that you want to hear is getting close to the bottom of the list of radio shows, you should tune in as soon as you can. These shows to have a high audio quality require a lot of internet bandwidth and memory.
And currently we can only afford the 14 latest shows online here at Rock-it Radio.
So, when a new show is put online it knocks the oldest one off the internet server. Usually a show will at least last 10 days, once it is placed in the archives.
